Monument Fighter Regiment Air Defense

Monument Fighter Regiment defense - the most mysterious monument in Dnepropetrovsk . It is located away from the main streets and the famous crossroads almost on the outskirts of the city. Among tall trees and green branches can be considered a modest pedestal with combat aircraft and a plaque near. Without further sculptures and bright signs kept modest monument to the heroic victories in the skies of the brave heroes of Regiment 933.

History of Aviation Regiment 933

The first air divisions were formed in the 1930s. City Stalino (now modern Donetsk ) became the first city in whose territory the aircraft developed a strategic defense. After World War I it became obvious that victories on the ground is not enough and it is necessary to develop defense sky. Thus arose the first training base and military reconnaissance planes.

933 Wing was born in the city of Stalingrad, on behalf of Beketov`s airport in June 1943. Team was based on the young company of 13 pilots who were trained in the training center Penzinskom. He graduated from the outstanding pilot Brandys AY, which is a monument on the avenue named after the newspaper "Pravda".

During the years of warfare regiment covered the flying space of the city of Stalingrad, Astrakhan, the Danube River, the airports of Romania, Hungary, Krakow. At the end of 1946 the composition relocated under the Dnepropetrovsk, in the territory of which he remained until the last days of the regiment.

The monument was erected after the dissolution of 933 Regiment in 1996. His place has been identified near the air base, which took charges, drills and exercises.
