Monument to Vladimir Borovikovsky, Myrgorod

December 12, 2008 in Mirgorod was a monument to famous Ukrainian artist and icon painter Vladimir Borovikovsky.
Historical Background
Vladimir Lukich Borovikovsky was born in Myrhorod in 1757. At that time housed in a Cossack regiment. Family on the part of his father belonged to the small Cossack nobility. They also engaged in iconography, but at the same time fulfill their military duties.
In Myrhorod Borovikovsky lived and worked for nearly 30 years. In late 1780 he moved to St. Petersburg and worked by Dmitry Levitsky.
His early work was related to the Ukrainian tradition of painting the 18th century. For example, some paintings on religious themes saved in Kiev Museum of Ukrainian Art.
