St. Michael Church, Bialystok

St. Michael Church in Bialystok - the oldest church in the beautiful village. It was built with the assistance of the landowner Bialystok Sylvester Gulevich, who later became a bishop.

The history of the church

Presumably, the St. Michael`s Church was named after the monastery, located near Bialystok. In 1600, the year in the monastery went to the famous Belostotsky landowner Sylvester Gulevich. A few years later he became one of the monks of the monastery, and in a couple of decades - the bishop.

In 1630 in the Volyn land come Tatars, destroying everything in its path, including the monastery near Bialystok. Gulevich decides to return to the village and founded St. Michael`s Church. St. Michael`s Church was built in 1836.

What can you see inside

St. Michael Church is an original example of the architectural art of the early 17th century with preserved wooden facades and murals.

The main attraction of the ancient temple can be called an ancient icon of the Mother of God. It has a medium size, consists of zinc background wooden frame decorated with silver and with gold. Inscriptions on it there is depicted the Mother of God and Child with Angels. According to experts, the year of the creation of the icon - no later than 1600. It is known that the bishop Gulevich brought her from the monastery, fleeing from the invasion of the Tatars.

How to get to St. Michael`s Church

The church is located in the village of Bialystok Volyn region. The quickest way to Bialystok temple is through Lutsk highway. Reaching the Torchinov, you must turn left to Bialystok. In the central part of the village is easy to find a picturesque church with expressive architecture.
