Staroakademichesky (Mazepa) body Mohyla Academy, Kyiv
On the campus of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy has quite unique building - Staroakademichesky body, habitually called Mazepa. Its history begins in the first half of the 18th century, it was then that he ordered the construction of Hetman Ivan Mazepa.
Until now, this glorious building remains important in Mogilyanka. The case covers the northern part of the yard of the Bratsk Monastery.
History of housing Staroakademicheskogo
Construction of single-storey housing in the spirit of the Baroque took place in 1700-1704 gg. the means of Hetman Ivan Mazepa on the project by an unknown author.
Architect Y.-G. Schedel overbuilt the second floor, where the Congregation Hall and the Church of the Annunciation . This unique construction of the yard was open bunk gallery, typical of the baroque style, window frames, roof of the hall and dormer (window openings in the roof slope), bunk bath domes topped with high flashlight. Then the building is undergoing changes. In 1765-1766 gg. shingle roof was changed to iron. In 1790 updated bath. In 1811, during the fire burned all the wooden structure, the building was restored with the help of the architect A. Melensky, which gave the church roof and bath classical forms. Arcade lower tier strengthened by additional pillars.
In 1863-1864 gg. by architect P. Sparro housing a number of changes. They were laid arch galleries, resulting in formed two corridors. In the corridor between the Congregational Hall and philosophical class struck overlap and built the central stairs to the second floor. The corridor of the first floor converted into a vestibule.
The walls are decorated with paintings Congregational hall of Western European paintings on mythological themes, busts of ancient philosophers and eminent personalities of the Academy. On the north and south walls of the church and in the bath is a few songs. In particular, it preserved multi-figure composition "Sermon on the Mount."
Later the body many times repaired, restored, restored. Landmark is depicted on the seal of ancient Kiev-Mogilyanki. Now there is a research library and a Doctoral School of Kyiv Mohyla Academy.
