Stanislaviv fortress, Ivano-Frankivsk
Stanislawow fortress in Ivano-Frankivsk is an example of fortifications mid-17th century. A fragment of the defensive bastion situated in the central part of the city.
History Stanislawow fortress
The history of the fortress begins in 1662, that`s when she was laid Kiev governor, Polish magnate and founder of the Ivano-Frankivsk Andrzej Potocki. The author of the project was made by F. Korassini, who is the author of the iconic sights of Ivano-Frankivsk 17th century as a palace Potocki, Church of Our Lady and many other architectural gems of the city. It is noteworthy that the first fortifications of the city were made of wood, but they were so powerful that they were able to withstand the Turkish siege in 1672.
Second Life gets a fortress 1679-1682 years, while under the supervision of K. Benoit Stanislawow fortress considerably strengthened. Now, the walls were made entirely of stone, their height reaches 10 m. The entire perimeter of the fortress were dug defensive trenches and ramparts with eight bastions. Up to now strengthen these have not survived. All of them were demolished by order of the Austrian authorities in the 19th century.
