House of Organ and Chamber Music at the White Church opened in St. John the Baptist Church building, in the central part of the city, on Castle Hill. Stone building of the cathedral - the construction in 1812. The composite ensemble temple contains all the features of church buildings of the early 19th century, which makes the Church is truly an architectural hallmark of the White Church.

The history and architecture of St. John the Baptist Church

Church of St. John the Baptist in the White Church was built at the expense of Hetman K. Branicki in 1789, but the construction dragged on for a long 23 years old. Temple doors opened only in 1812.

The church was built on the spot where previously housed a wooden church, which gave the city the name. Getman laid the temple in memory of his son Alexander, who died while still a small child. There is a version that the author of this architectural jewel is the Italian architect Domenico Botany.

The shape of the church resembles a traditional Catholic cross, the height of 27 m, width - 24.5 m, and length - 35 m Special attention deserves the interior of the Cathedral:. Molding made by Italian craftsmen, the church is decorated with paintings of unknown authors. Gender is paved with marble slabs in different colors.

In 1930, the church of St. John the Baptist is closed for 35 years. Temporarily services were resumed only during the German occupation. In the 50s there was located a lecture hall, and later - a warehouse. All this is a very negative impact on the architecture of the cathedral. The first restoration was carried out in 1964, then - in 1972. Finally, the cathedral was restored only in 1978. It was completed side wall, built steps and reinforced fortifications.

The idea to open a church in the House of organ and chamber music was first announced in the mid 70s. The first organ installed in winter 1990. Over the years, the House of Organ and Chamber Music acquired the status of one of the best concert halls in Ukraine, and also became the center of spiritual life of the entire White Church. There were artists from different countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Sweden, Italy, Argentina, USA, Canada and others.

Every year the festival "Golden Autumn" is held in the House of Organ and Chamber Music at the White Church. For tour groups special concerts are held on request.

Here, on a regular basis is an exhibition and sale of works by local artists, and then held city events, the celebration of the professional holiday, the presentation of awards cultural figures, charity concerts.

White Church - a city of regional subordination in the Kiev region, located 90 km south-west of the capital. You can get here by bus, which depart from the bus station of the capital , as well as in railway transport from the station Kiev-Passenger.
