Graphite quarry Zavalye

Rubble - a town in Kirovograd region. But unlike other quiet and beautiful steppe localities, it has on its surroundings ... a huge hole in the ground.

Fortunately, this is not an easy gap. Here, in the rubble, graphite is mined in the quarry. And this deposit is the second largest in the world. But do not get rich idea that Ukraine is one of the leading mining graphite. Unfortunately, it is not. A graphite is widely used in the industry, ranging from pencil cores and shells for nuclear warheads.

History of the village

Rubble known historians since 1462. We can not say with precision who created it. Perhaps there was a border checkpoint Lithuania, later Rzeczpospolita. It may even be such that there wintered Cossacks. For their wintering there were many on the banks of the Southern Bug.

In the 19th century the town belonged to Mr. Pechora. But in 1862 he sold his possessions and land Jew H. Ginsburg.

History deposits in rubble

  • When the territory of rubble came the Soviets in 1921 was conducted geological studies. According to the results, there were large deposits of graphite.
  • At first field developed by mining, but later it was decided to dig a pit.
  • In 1929, the foundation was laid processing plant (now the company "Ukrgrafit"). Since then remained stone building, which is rather like a small estate than on building the plant.
