Lumshory – Carpathian heaven or hell
In the
Carpathian province, in the dense forest, the small village of Lumshory is located. Its population is around 100 people. They welcome a lot of tourists each year. All that is because
Lumshory is famous for its sulphur mineral springs and unique bathing procedure, which resembles “torture.”
The village became famous in the 16th century. The locals made large wooden troughs and filled them with healing mineral water from a
nearby spring. The water was so cold that it was difficult to stay in it even a couple of minutes. So people decided to heat it: red-hot stones were placed on the bottom of the
trough. And in the 19th century, when the first cast-iron workshop appeared in the neighbouring village, two huge tubs were brought to Lumshory. By the way, one of them is still used
by tourists.
Lumshory tubs are located in the open air] along the rough mountain river Turychka. You can bath in them all year round, the procedure costs about 300 UAH per hour
The huge 250-litre cast iron tub is filled with mineral water up to the top. Under each tub, a fire is made, which
allows maintaining a constant temperature. After taking a hot bath, you can plunge into the icy waters of the Turychka for a more curative effect. The unique combination of hydrogen
sulphide and radon has a positive effect on the joints and musculoskeletal system, relieves pain and aching in the bones.
Despite the fact Lumshory is located far from big cities, its infrastructure is well-developed.
Tourists can stay in a private house, hotel or stay with a large company in a wooden cottage
Depending on location and comfort, one room can cost from 400 UAH per day and more. Meals are usually paid separately. On the territory of the
village, there are cafes and a shop.
Of course, bathing in a tub isn’t the only pleasure offered in Lumshory. The village is situated in the picturesque valley of the Carpathian Mountains, so you can go walking around and enjoy the nature. Another wonder of the region is located not far from the village – Lumshory Waterfalls, among which the most famous are Solovey and Partyzan.
Although the maximum height of the waterfall is less than 6 metres, they are full-flowing and very beautiful.
Those, who are fond of active rest, who like steep ascents and descents, are [offered to use interesting routes in Ornithological Reserve “Falcon Rocks”. The reserve is located on the slopes of the mountain range Polonyna Runa.
Here you can see rare birds such as eagles, golden eagles and falcons proudly flying in the sky.
The most convenient way to get to Lumshory is by car. The village is located 17 kilometres from the highway T 0712, Perechyn–Irshava.
After passing the village of Turyi Remety, you must turn in the direction to the villages of the Turychka and follow the signs. The road passes through the woods, so in winter and in
a rainy day, the road is heavy. But if you overcome all obstacles, you will find yourself in a paradise.
