Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary
Western Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk region, there is a small town Gorodenka. History of the city begins in the 3rd millennium BC, when these lands were occupied Tripolskiy people. Once in the 17th century Tatar horde burned the city Coloma, Gorodenka became strategically important center. In the 18th century it began a large-scale urban development. City came into the possession of the Polish magnate, political and military figure of Nicholas Potocki. In 1743 Nicholas Potocki erected Gorodenka Catholic church - the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.
Catholic shrine was built in the Baroque style and now is an architectural monument of national importance. Author became a Ukrainian church architect Bernard Meretin. When you get closer, you'll notice that the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary is a three-aisled basilica, made brickwork. Three naves have a different shape of the structure. Average oil - low and covered with groin vaults on the system, while the side - have a dome structure. Building facade projects slightly forward, which is achieved through the towers, several displaced toward the center of the building. Exterior decoration refers to the Corinthian order. Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary is equipped with spacious vaulted cellars. His choirs are represented by small balconies, densely arranged along the walls of the Catholic church. External sculptural details on the window frames and balcony balustrades have similar images of the Cathedral of St. George, which was also designed by Bernard Meretin. REDD Catholic church at different levels were added to cells. Compositionally temple is designed as a one-storey building to the north and story - from the south.
In the 30s of the 19th century bell tower was completed, which can be heard ringing before worship. Also defensive fence around the church was replaced by a small toothed fence. In the courtyard of the temple stands the figure of the Virgin Mary, made great Ukrainian sculptor Johann Penzelem.
Go inside the Catholic shrines and note the fresco masonry which has remained here since the 18th century. Thread pulpit, main altar, on which is depicted the Mother of God, the iconostasis and two small altars belongs sculptor Johann Pinzel.
