Area Roksolany, Rohatyn
The city was the birthplace of Rohatyn Roksolana - the great woman that was captured as a child Tatars, but which eventually could become the world political figure, guiding the country through her husband, Sultan. In her honor was named in the central area, which now houses many architectural monuments fork.
History Roksolany area
Earlier Rohatyn was famous for its fairs that do not even inferior Lviv. City square of that time can be described as follows: paved roadway, shopping brained people dressed in simple clothes pale colors, artisans and merchants. Subsequently, the area known as Market because in those days there continuously operated market.
Along the perimeter of the square was lined with four rows of narrow buildings with facades that are close to each other. In addition to a rectangular area of the town hall and the market were to develop a workshop cloth. In urban area was built cisterns, which were wooden pipe.
At the level of the first floor area Roksolany were built wooden sheds, which stood at counters and there was a brisk trade. The main streets of the area led to Lviv, Galician and Cracow Gate.
Over time, the area Roksolany in Rohatyn took the name from the famous native city. Russian priest`s daughter who became the wife of the future Turkish sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, actually directed all the Ottoman Empire.
Attractions in the area Roksolany
- In the center of the square a monument Roksolana in 1999.
- On one end of the square is located the Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin.
- From the east side of the square is the dominant center of the city - Nicholas church. The temple was built in the Baroque and Renaissance elements from Gothic, built approximately in the 15th century on the site where the old church was located.
