Date of foundation of the theater - 29 December 1975, and called it the theater of dolls. Each year, the theater appeared more and more fans, so had the idea to organize a theater complex, which would consist of Theatre for Young People and puppet theater. So, April 21, 1981 Puppet Theatre received a new name - Sumy theater for children and youth.

The repertoire of the theater and activities

Overall repertoire Sumy theater for children and youth is about 40 performances (puppet and drama). It works by authors as Ukrainian and foreign, "One hundred thousand" Ivan Karpenko-Kary, "On Fedor arrow - young man dashing" Leonid Filatov, "The Adventures of Pinocchio" by Alexei Tolstoy`s "Aesop" Giler Figueiredo. Currently Sumy theater for children and youth has toured extensively.

Interesting fact: in the premises of the theater during the Second World War, secretly met members of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists.
