The Monument to Princess Olga, Cyril and Methodius Equal to the Apostles and St Andrew the Apostle

Monument to Princess Olga was opened in 1911 and was supposed to be part of a series of monuments under the name "Historic Route". Alley, consisting of figures of Prince Oleg Kyi, Schek, Horeb, Igor, Svyatoslav and other legendary historical figures, was to reach out from the Sofia St. Michael`s Square. The beginning of this plan and the opening of the historical path of ancient Kiev put pedestal Princess Olga. On the right hand it is Apostle Andrew, and on the left there are figures of brothers Cyril and Methodius.
This idea has approved himself Nicholas II, who singled out for its implementation 10 thousand rubles. The entire sculpture was made of concrete project Ivan Kavaleridze. It should be said that the monument to Princess Olga, who we see today is only a copy. In 1919, the company, on whose initiative established a pedestal, accused of having links with the Black Hundreds, so the original version was thrown from its pedestal and smashed and buried debris.
In 1996, part of the broken sculpture found again, but not all of them survived. Sculpture recreated from photographs, this time using white marble. Grand opening of the monument took place on the Day of Kyiv - May 25, 1996.
