Pokrovsky Monastery, Bar

History Pokrovsky monastery in the city of Vinnytsia Bar is filled with many as tragic and bright events. The first monastery on this site originated in the 16th century, it was located in the forest, but in 1596 was ruined. In 1616 on the site of the old temple began construction of the stone monastery and collegium, but during the War of Independence in 1648 the temple again suffered destruction. In 1701 it was decided to begin reconstruction of the monastery, however, due to lack of funds, it lasted until 1787.

In the late 19th century when the Holy Protection Monastery acted religious school. In 1881 the monastery was renamed the female. The reason for this was the fact that while on the tail was 9 monasteries and only 2 women, and the number of girls who want to enter the service of God, all the while increasing.

According to legend, since the mid-17th century in the monastery town of Bar is a miraculous icon of Our Lady of the Bar. The image was in the church until the 90s of the 20th century. In 1994, she was transferred to the Diocese of Odessa. Returned back to the shrine until 1999.

Now the monastery holds regular worship services and religious processions. In 2012 the monastery was granted the status of an independent.
