Kiev Observatory

Kiev Observatory - one of the oldest observatories in Ukraine. During its 150-year history it has always played an important role in the life of Kiev.

Construction of the observatory was completed in 1845. For the design of the building was responsible Vincent Beretta. The Observatory has always been perfectly equipped. All kinds of tools and equipment imported from Europe and St. Petersburg. The quality of some deserve special attention. For example, the meridian circle served from 1873 to 1996, and is now in excellent condition.

Interesting fact that the construction of the tower telescope, were found the remains of the burial of some of the Kiev nobles. Some argue that this is the tomb of Prince Oleg. Back in the early 20s to the Observatory offers weekly service addressed the exact time. Watchmakers check the time with the astronomical clock.

Today the observatory lectures and night tours. Many sacrifice their sleep for a wonderful spectacle - the night sky dotted with stars. Some come here hoping to see through the telescope of life on Mars or the Moon.

When the observatory is a museum. There are exhibited astronomical instruments. Instrument can be traced the history of astronomy. Here you can see what the ancient Egyptians used the Sumerians and by what makes the world open than are modern scientists. Admission fee is 10 hryvnia. Unforgettable memories are guaranteed the magic of the night sky and the extraordinary closeness of the stars.
