The sculpture "Den"

This Hutsul den, created by sculptor Petruk, greets visitors near the ethnographic cafe "Gragda." Here you can see and Astrologer with a scythe, and Mary with the child and an angel with a sword, and, of course, the devil and death, without which it can not do any Christmas nativity scene.

Theatrical performance for a long time is one of the favorite entertainment of Western Ukraine. Carefully made-up characters and festively dressed from house to house spread the good news of the birth of Christ.

However, the actual events that prompted the author to create a sculpture, were tragic. This song he dedicated to agriculture den participants, who were shot by the Soviet authorities in the village near Maximus in 1948.
