Monument to Lieutenant Schmidt on Berezan Island
Island Berezan - is one of the few islands of the Black Sea with the richest history. This is where the famous revolutionary was shot by Lieutenant Schmidt.
In August 1968 the island inaugurated obelisk in memory of the hero. We mount it in the form of the sail of the three 15-meter boards. The principal architects were L. Galkin and A. Ochakovo. Cast slabs students of the Odessa Civil Engineering and Nikolaev Shipbuilding Institute. So far, it remains a mystery to researchers, both on the island, where there is no electricity, without the use of special equipment could build such a massive structure.
Thousands of people visited the monument since opening, it has become a cult attraction of the island. For the convenience of tourists lined the pier and mounted suspension bridge.
Since the 80s the monument is no longer popular among tourists and since then begins its gradual ruin. Today, the bridge has already been destroyed, plaques were stolen and subsequently replaced. The number of travelers has decreased dramatically. However, the monument to Lieutenant Schmidt is still a symbol of the island Berezan. In 2013, the monument noted the 45th anniversary of its opening.
