Onufriy Tower

Onufriy Tower

Onufrievskaya tower was built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries as a fortification fortress walls Kiev-Pechersk Lavra . In the second tier of the building housed a temple in honor of St. Onuphrius the Great. For a while there was a refectory, so the tower is called a ward.

The exterior of the church-tower Onufrievskoy looks much more modest than the design of the main churches of the Lavra, given the fortification function of the building. For more than three hundred years history of the construction, it was rebuilt several times. Large destruction of buildings were applied in 1918, as a result of the shelling of the city Muraveva troops.

Despite the long-standing origin and caused all the damage, the main architectural features of the tower survived to our time. Now inside and outside the tower Onufrievskoy held protracted repairs.
