Monastery of St. Gerard
Centuries by word of mouth transferred legend about the amazing history of the monastery of St.. Gerard. According to legend, the locals in the forest found the icon of the Mother of God Kohavinskoy. It happened in 1646. Rumors about the healing power of icons spread quickly, and soon it pulled pilgrims from different cities.
First shrine was stored in a small chapel, but later for her wooden church was built. Study of icons took special commission which documented numerous cases of healing, recognized her miraculous.
In 1868 there was a majestic stone church. The wizard creates it in Neo-Gothic style. Later in the same style stone chapel was built. For a long time there lived monks Carmelites.
During the Soviet era and the church and monastery ceased to exist. Crosses were torn down, the church began to store linen, and placed in a convent boarding school for mentally retarded children.
The miraculous icon of the eve of World War II was taken by monks who tried to save her from destruction. Now this shrine is kept in Poland. Ukrainian church has a copy of the sacred image.
