Monastery and Church of St.. Anna

At the crossroads of Gorodetsky and Shevchenko is the ancient church of St.. Anna. Ever since the beginning of the 18th century, this shrine became a place of pilgrimage, where people gathered from all over Galicia, to bow down before the miraculous icon of Our Lady Comforter.

However, it is worth mentioning that the history of the church of St. Anne is associated with the tragic events. In 1495 journeyman tailor, exhausted from hard work, decided to flee from Lviv under the cover of night. But the city guard overtook the fugitives and as a result several apprentices were killed. At the site of the bloody events of dead comrades poured grave and put a cross. And in 1507 the efforts of the tailor shop on the scene built a small church, which was dedicated in honor of Saint Anne.

The tragic fate accompanied this place and after the completion of the church. In 1509, during a raid Vlachs wooden church burned down and was rebuilt only in 1599, this time in stone. However, in 1648, during the siege of Lviv, the temple was destroyed again. The new church of St. Anne originated in 1673, and its present shape it acquired in 1730.

Today, the church of St. Anne is a modest sample of the baroque style with many details of the Renaissance. The most recent element of construction - tower, created in the Art Deco style that was popular at the beginning of the last century.
