Historic Centre of Tulchyn

Tulchin - the regional center of Vinnitsa region. The first mention of the city dates back to 1607. This small town has a great historical past. In the early 17th century, the city starts flourishing thanks to European merchants and Polish magnate Adam Kalinowski. In times of Bogdan Khmelnitsky city is at the center of fighting that has led to significant damage. But with the advent of the Potocki family city gets reborn in 1775 Stanisław Potocki creates Tulchin family residence. Intensive development of the city, with the participation of famous architects make the city famous throughout Europe, it is called not only as "Podolsky Versailles."

The most significant building - Potocki Palace , built in 1782 in the center of Tulchin by the French builder Lacroix. The palace consists of a main building and two side wings, interconnected galleries. In the side buildings were theater and arena, but, unfortunately, in the early 20th century it was destroyed and rebuilt. Since 1975, began restoration of the palace, which is still ongoing. Was completely destroyed landscape park in the English style, with a name of "good".

There is another palace Potocki - Small , which is located on Lenin Street. It from 1796 to 1797 housed the headquarters of Suvorov. It was here that was written by the famous treatise "The Science of Winning". In the center of the city erected a monument known commander.

Opposite the main palace is a former Catholic Dominican Church , built at the expense of Potocki. Its construction lasted from 1786 to 1817. As conceived by British architects had to remind the church of St. Peter`s Cathedral in Rome. Since 1832 the church was moved to the Orthodox Church, now here is the Church of the Nativity.

Tulchin city is not only rich in architectural monuments, but also the famous people who lived and visited cities. This is the head of the Southern Society of Decembrists P. Pestel, Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, Ukrainian writer Ivan Kotlyarevsky, Ukrainian composer N. Leontovich and many others.
