Kochubey House, Baturyn

Not all Ukrainian cities have such a rich history as Baturin . The official residence of Hetman of Left Bank Ukraine - the status of the city held nearly half a century, since 1669. Here are preserved priceless historical and architectural monuments.

General Military Court building was built in the second half of the 17th century during the reign of Hetman Demian Mnohohrishny. In 1700, Basil Kochubei was elected general judge, after which he moved into the house with his family and became the new owner of the courthouse. Efforts Kotchubey area around the house gradually began improving, was built a wooden house church, picturesque park with a pond.

The tragic love story of Ivan Mazepa`s daughter Kotchubey Motria developed within the walls of this building. He intended to marry Motril which has been his goddaughter, but was refused. Maybe it was the fact that Kotchubey with Cossack colonel Iskra wrote a denunciation of the Hetman Peter I. But the king believed the assurances of Mazeppa in devotion, then Kochubey and Iskra were publicly executed.

Today it is Baturinskii museum, which introduces visitors to the complex and sometimes tragic fate of hetman`s capital. In the basement of the building, the interior chamber of the investigation and the conclusion of a wax and a military prisoner clerk.
