Tserkva Sampsonіya Strannopriїmtsya
Sampson the Hospitable Church Orthodox Church is subordinate to the Moscow Patriarchate. Beautiful architectural structure recognizes the historical and cultural heritage of the area. The temple was built in the mid 19th century in honor of the Battle of Poltava, crowned with victory of the Russian army over the Swedish army.
Construction of the church Sampson was planned since 1709 the reigning Peter I. For many years, the project was delayed for various reasons, only in 1852 was laid the first stone of the church. Chief architect Joseph made Charlemagne.
The resulting structure dazzled even the most sophisticated audience. Temple, designed by the brilliant architect, was not unlike any existing one. Curved shape of the first tier, decorated arched facade, an abundance of domes, luxurious exterior painted church Sampson make one of a kind.
Inside the building is preserved all unique interior, luxury vaults, iconostasis - all restored in a original form. The temple itself stands at the foot of a mass grave of Swedish troops, which overlooks a large Orthodox cross and a memorial inscription.
