St Mary`s Church (Church of the Intercession), Kaniv

Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located in Kanev Cherkassy region. It is located on the   Tarasova mountain . According to legends, Taras Shevchenko wanted to get here site, but it was not implemented. After his death, the poet`s remains were buried on the highest peak. Since then it is called, there stands the cross.

The church was created from a natural tree   in the 16th century. She   became the spiritual center of the Pokrovsky Orthodox church.   Sanctuary than once destroyed by the Tatars and restored by order of Ivan Mazepa. Her recovery was illustrations by the famous French artist Jean-Henri Muntz.

The church stands on a hill in front of her and placed Cossack memorial. It was rebuilt in the original form to the anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko. The church will be included in the   The Shevchenko National Reserve . Church of the Intercession is a very interesting appearance and especially decor. Visiting her, tourists feel as if the spirit of the great poet. Church of the Intercession is considered a cult for tourists.
