The Shevchenko National Reserve

Shevchenko National Park, located four kilometers from the center of the city of Kanev, the first in the country awarded the status of a national. In the reserve covers an area of 2,500 hectares, consists of eight cultural heritage and National Museum of the great Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. In addition, the unique territory Ukrainian steppe are monuments of archeology, history, geology and paleontology.
It was here, on a hill near the Dnieper and was buried Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. This place Shevchenko described in one of his works, and bury themselves after death in Kano. After the burial Chernechna mountain was renamed Mount Tarasov and recognized national property of Ukraine. Some time later, in 1925, at the grave of the poet was a monument to the great Taras Shevchenko, which is the largest in the country. And next to the burial place of the built Literary and Memorial Museum.
Feature of the reserve are monumental granite steps, equipped with metal railings in the style of Ukrainian national ornament. To climb the mountain Tarasov, you have to overcome three hundred forty-two stage. Rising to the top, you can admire the magnificent park with oak alley and numerous monuments. From the observation deck offers amazing views of the Dnieper and its pristine shores.
Be sure to visit the museum, located in the Ukrainian hut, which never had the chance to live the poet. He only ordered him to buy this house, which is now known as "Tarasova Svetlitsa." The museum collection consists of twenty thousand items, including personal belongings of Taras Shevchenko, rare editions of his poems, works of art of foreign and Ukrainian writers, archival documents, film and photographs, audio and video recordings of famous Bandurist and Shevchenko.
The village Morintsy, located in the reserve, you will be able to visit the courtyard grandfather`s house after Taras Shevchenko, where in his honor a memorial stone. In the village is a house landlord Budishcha Engelhardt, there is a young kobzar served kazachkom. Today, this place is a memorial plaque and nearby still standing perennial oaks, in the hollow of one of which Taras hid his first drawings.
Within the reserve are regularly held all kinds of exhibitions, festivals, performances by renowned choirs and orchestras, as well as meetings with the talented winners of the National Taras Shevchenko Prize.
A unique combination of past and present, reality and ancient legends is Shevchenko Park. Come to this wonderful place where nature has created excellent conditions for good rest and recuperation of beautiful forests and spectacular scenery.
