St. Nicholas Monastery desert-Ryhlivskyy
St. Nicholas desert-Ryhlivskyy monastery stands on the highest point of Chernihiv - 212 meters above sea level. And begins his story long ago as in the 17th century.
The legend associated with the monastery
In the late 16th century the middle of dense forest polis`ky was a wooden church. According to legend, one of the locals appeared on maple icon of St. Nicholas. Farmer took her to his home, but the next day the icon appeared again at the same place. This was repeated several times before people realized that in this way the saint show him the place for the church. At this point, built a tower.
At first worship pravylysya twice a year - in winter (19 December) and summer (May 22) Nicholas.
History Ryhlivskoho monastery
The monks, who moved here from other monasteries, originally lived in caves. Later constructed cell, refectory and church on the spot where the icon appeared. In 1666 the joint efforts of Archbishop Lazarus Baranovych and Basil and Damian Mnohohrishny monastery firmly on his feet. He handed village, hay, crossing the Desna river and mill.
The monastery kept the image of Nicholas chasuble which was made at the expense of Myrhorod colonel, later Hetman Danylo Apostol. The main church also kept darohranytelnytsyu silver produced in 1749.
After coming to Ukraine Soviet rule, the monastery was closed in 1922, and all the brethren expelled from the monastery. It arranged the orphanage. In the 30s the building began to disassemble the bricks for buildings in Ponornytsi . In the last years of the Soviet Union close to the north side of the arcade was built village loose .
Since 2004, St. Nicholas desert-Ryhlivskyy monastery began to revive.
How to get to the sanctuary
Getting to the village is not easy to loose. If you drive your own car, you need to go along the road R12 Chernihiv - Hrem`yach , turn right at Avdiiyitsi through Ponornytsyu you reach the final destination.
Also loose village can be reached by bus. To clarify information call the bus station in Koropi (street Chernihiv, 4, tel. (04655) 2-13-42).
