Lake Maricheika
Maricheika Lake - one of the most beautiful alpine lakes of glacial origin of the Carpathians, which lies on the northeast slope of Mount Shurin. It is part of the Carpathian National Nature Park . Near the lake is seen one of the highest mountains of the Carpathian region - Pop Ivan , it reaches a height of 2022 m.
Landscapes Lake pleasing to the eye of every tourist. It is located at an altitude of 1510 meters, the lake shore is decorated with a forest of spruce and mountain pine. This is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in area of the Ukrainian Carpathians.
The emergence of the lake`s name is preceded by a legend. In ancient times he lived in a village girl Maricheika. It was a tumultuous time, were frequent raids of the Tatars. In one of those days, when the Tatars attacked again on the village, the people moved to seek refuge in the mountains, but the Tartars followed. Then Maricheika volunteered to save his people. She stopped the Tatars and led them in a swampy area, when the Tatars rushed to kill the girl, everything trembled, rose a hurricane, thunder and throwing stones, the earth gave way and the lake was formed, which killed all Tatars. People and named the lake in honor of their savior.
Along the lake Maricheika trail passes - one of the most interesting, not only in the Carpathian National Park, but all Carpathians. Landscapes have unimaginable beauty. Journey to the lake will be a pleasant holiday for all tourists and lovers of eco-tourism in particular.
