Monastery of the Dormition of the Mother of God, Chase

Monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the village of Chase . For the first time the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, located in the monastery was mentioned in chronicles in the first half of the 17th century. Icon, written anonymous artist around 1650, before the end of the century was kept in a small church here.

History of the Assumption monastery

According to legend, in the 18th century, the leader of a small Roman warriors defeated the army of Batu Khan. And before this battle governor dreamed a dream Nicholas, who told him not to defend and attack enemies valiantly. On the territory of this battle in 1634 and was built the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. And in the place where governor had a prophetic dream, they built a temple of St. Nicholas.

The new Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin at the monastery in the village was built on the donations of famous noblewomen as gratitude for a cure obtained near the face of the Virgin. Bishop Atanas Sheptitsky proclaimed miraculous way. In the 70s of the 18th century on the donations of people were made precious holiday decorations and crowns that were destroyed by order of the Austrian Caesar Joseph II.

Re temple and monastery of the Assumption of the Mother of God were built in the early 20th century, but in 1946-1950 it`s all destroyed by communists. The miraculous icon managed to keep preserved.

In 1991, the monastery was revived. Holy image transferred to the newly-built convent chapel. Today, Assumption monastery and church in the village of Chase is one of the largest centers of pilgrimage for the Greek-Catholic parishioners.
