Monument Nile Hasevychu

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the artist`s birth and hrafista Ukrainian Insurgent Army in Rivne was a monument Nile Hasevychu. The author is a bronze bust by sculptor Peter Hlemyaz Kyiv.

Subsequently, the city council it was decided to move the monument to the Nile Hasevychu downtown. Members of the City Council and MPs of Ukraine for its own funds and arranged transportation restoration of the bronze bust, and the funds that were allocated for the transfer of the monument, donated to the City Children`s Hospital.

Neil Hasevych: historical background

Neil was born in the village Hasevych Dyuksyn family deacon. He studied at the gymnasium in Rovno , was a volunteer at the school at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. And from 1930 to 1933 was a student of the same institution. Also Hasevych Neil was a member of Ukrainian art union "Calm." His work has been exhibited in Lvov , Berlin, Prague, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Since the early 40s Hasevych was in Ukrainian underground. He worked in the rebel underground magazine "To arms," ​​wrote illustrations for magazines "Ukrainian pepper" and "hell." Neil is the author of all Hasevych sketches awards UHVR UPA (Ukrainian Supreme Liberation Council). Hasevych created the album "Volyn in the fight" and album of the anti-Soviet cartoons. He published it their works under pseudonyms Sot, Bay Fishing, Levko, 333 Old Bumblebee. A full fight he could not, because the accident Hasevych lost a leg. So his weapon against the Soviet regime was a pencil.

In 1951 came from Moscow instructed to stop anti-Soviet activities Hasevycha for his prints were on the eye delegates to the UN General Assembly. March 2, 1952 Neil Hasevych was killed near the village suhovtsy that in Rivne region. In the same year in Philadelphia (USA), was posthumously released album "Graphics in UPA bunkers."
