St. George`s Church, Mogilev-Podolsky

Greek, or St. George, the church appeared in Mogilev-Podolsky in the early 19th century on the site of the dilapidated wooden church. Under the direction of architect Freyvalda was erected stone five-domed building in the classical style.

Magnificent iconostasis was specially ordered from the masters of Nezhin, which is famous for his ability on the whole empire. The walls are decorated piastres George`s Church. The church holds many shrines, diligently collected some local superiors. Embroidered with silver and gold Greek priestly vestments, carved icons, chandeliers Eastern masters work - it was the property of the temple. Toward the end of the 19th century, was founded here and parochial school. Updated and the interior of the church - it appeared oil painting.

However, during the Soviet era relics disappeared, unique iconostasis was destroyed, and the church itself is closed. Worship resumed only in the middle of the last century. New iconostasis collected from images that were saved believers in other churches skirts.

Today the temple has received the status of the cathedral, it is included in the list of architectural monuments of national importance.
