Church of St. John the Evangelist, Pokrovka

Church of St. John the Theologian in Pokrovka - an architectural marvel, located on the right bank of the river Tiligul. Its founder was a landowner Kondratsky. According to legend, inspired by the landowner trip to Austria, where he met a beautiful church with numerous domes and splendid architecture. Since then, Kondratsky vowed to build an accurate copy of it in their native lands.

A distinctive feature of the church is its 11 domes, the largest of which is 17.5 meters. The whole architecture is well combined features: narrow arched windows, peaked bell tower, cornices. The temple is equipped with a heating system, which was established in 1911 with the assistance of Kondratsky, an engineer by profession.

In the period from 1917 to the 1990s, the building was empty and service were not carried out. Local authorities wanted to demolish the church to the ground, but an authoritative writer Oleynik defended unique structure, proposing to create it museum. Since the mid-1990s, the whole complex of the church once again returned to the Christian community Pokrovki.
