St. Basil`s Cathedral, Chilia

This cathedral is located in   Kealia Odessa region, one of the oldest cities in Ukraine. The cathedral is quite old, it was erected in the period from 1822 to 1836 years. Chief architect of the cathedral was Mel`nikov, the project area which was built in a semicircle near the famous Potemkin Stairs in Odessa.

St. Basil`s Cathedral is the main Orthodox church in the city, the locals   it is also called "Ukrainian church." This temple was built around the old church, which was rebuilt in the Muslim mosque in 1484. In the century there was a siege of the city, and he fell to the Ottoman Empire. After the completion of the new cathedral, the old church was dismantled altogether.

In 1895, to the Pokrovsky Cathedral bell-tower and temple walls painted in blue color, which gives it charm. Since then, nothing has changed. In this way we can see the Cathedral and in our days. Amazing place with no less amazing story worth to see it.
