Church of St. John the Evangelist, Nisa
The first wooden church of St. John the Evangelist in the bottoms of the city was built by the founder of Sumy (and also the village of Nisa) Colonel G. Kondratiev in 1678 in memory of the deceased elder son Ivan. Successful saharozavodchik Sukhanov continued his good beginnings. He was the head of the Transfiguration Cathedral . His last dream in life was to build a brick St. John the Theologian Church in the lower ranks. Dying In 1909, he bequeathed to finish the construction of his sons and nephew A. Surguchevu.
And now, in June 1910 Nisa arrived Archbishop Arseny Kharkov to consecrate a new parish church in the name of St. John the Evangelist. During the Soviet period, the building was stored vegetables. Now the doors of the church are open to parishioners.
