Taras Shevchenko Monument, Romney
In the summer of 1845 Taras Shevchenko visited Romny on Elias fair. October 27, 1918 at the place where during the fair was his tent (now Shevchenko Boulevard) was inaugurated a monument dedicated to the poet. He became the first full-size monument Shevchenko.
Romney led the Bolsheviks, who actively supported the cult of the revolutionary poet. The creation of the monument was entrusted to outstanding sculptors Kavaleridze. Initially, it was assumed that it would be a bust, but monumental insisted that such a great man must make a big monument.
The first sketch, the stories Kavaleridze was sad, downcast person. The final version of the sculptor gave the indomitable strength of mind of the poet, its inextricable link with their native land.
As a result, to this day this sculpture called the most "humane" a monument to Shevchenko. Initially it was made of concrete. But over time, the monument became crumble. October 27, 1982 was replaced by a bronze copy.
