Church of St John the Baptist, Sumy

One of the main attractions of the city of Sumy - The Church of St John the Baptist.
In 1687, Sumy Colonel Gerasim Kondratyev ordered the construction on the outskirts of St. John the Baptist Nunnery, a few years later there appeared eponymous temple. At the end of 100 years since the establishment of the monastery was closed, but in 1837 a family of local nobles Lintvarevyh donated funds for the construction of a new three-stone church. With this money not only built a magnificent temple in the classical style, but the bell tower. External decoration of the church serve niches, pilasters and cornices. The western part of the facade is decorated with a portico with four columns and two additional inputs.
In the early 20th century, the temple appeared two side altars - the Holy Trinity and St. John, as well as a new iconostasis. Today, the current temple is an architectural monument.
