In the south-eastern part of Zhitomir region is the urban village Popelnya. Religious Sites village became St. Nicholas Church.
The temple belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. The Orthodox community has appeared in Popelnya in 1993. Parishioners teamed up and persuaded the administration to allocate space for the construction of the church. The first service was held in the community of Intercession of the Theotokos in 1994. A service at the St. Nicholas Church took place at Easter 1995.
The brick church is in the form mnogokupolnogo complex, which also included a bell tower. Build a temple in Russian-Byzantine style, each decorated with a raised dome cupola and cross. The appearance of the church is also consistent with the decoration of Russian churches that were built in the 17th century. The temple was built cross-shaped, three-aisled, with a five-domed spherical terminations. Three-tiered bell tower, decorated with round window, adjacent to the front of the church.
Attractions near St. Nicholas Church
Attention is drawn to the monument of Taras Shevchenko and the obelisk to the victims of the Holodomor, which are in Zhitomir. From earlier monuments deserve special attention memorial to soldiers who died during the World War II mass grave and border guards.
