Zhidichinsky Nicholas Monastery

Nicholas Monastery in Zhidichine - a unique sanctuary, which is the most important monument of national importance. The monastery continues to operate today and is the guardian of the deep history of Volyn region.

The history of the monastery

• The middle of the 13th century - the creation of a Lutsk (a few kilometers to the north of it) a small monastery with wooden keliyami in the wild forest.
• 1500s - adoption of a formal union, and the beginning of cooperation with the European patriarchy higher ranks.
• 1608-1826 years - Nicholas convent becomes the place of residence of the bishops Uniates.
• 1830 - Decree of the reigning Emperor Nicholas I, the monastery is closed.
• 1893 - withdrawn from the archives of the monastery chronicles the entire material for transmission to the church and archaeological repository.
• 2003 - restored as a monastery Zhidichinsky Monastery of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra under the control of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Kiev Patriarchate.

How to get to the monastery Zhidichinskomu

The easiest way to find the monastery, leaving from Lutsk to villages Lighthouses or Prilutsky. Small Zhidichin is between these two villages. Nicholas Monastery is located in the central part of the village, in green bush once the wild forests of Volyn.
