Metal bridge across the Dniester, Galich
The unique engineering structure of the 1900s in Galicia was produced design office machines E. Zalinevskogo factory in Krakow. Today, the metal bridge is in disrepair and requires immediate reconstruction.
History and bridge construction in Galicia
During the years 1910-1912 was built a bridge across the Dniester river 312 meters in length. It stands on four stone pillars-pylons spaced ranges: 55, 63, 76 and 55 meters. The design consists of openwork metal forms, held together by rivets.
During World War I the bridge across the Dniester was partially destroyed. In 1921 it was restored, and since 1933 to 1938 metal construction again repaired due to an emergency condition. During the Second World Bridge twice destroyed and rebuilt. During the retreat of Soviet troops blew it, and the German authorities, which replaced the Soviet, went into its restoration. But later, during the retreat of the German troops blew it again. The last overhaul of the bridge survived in 1953. With the opening in 1984 of a new bridge, this monument of engineering from the early 20th century, was transformed into a pedestrian.
Yet since 2007, the local council, it was decided to close the bridge for the passage, and to date the situation has not changed. In 2005 and 2006 there were attempts to repair the bridge, but the allocated budget is not enough. In general, for a complete renovation is necessary eight million UAH, which organize local forces can not.
Where is the metal bridge
Bridge is in the Galician region of Ivano-Frankivsk region, considered an architectural monument of Galich. Although he now does not fulfill its intended purpose, but worth it to assess its engineering design firsthand.
