Building a children`s hospital, Sumy

History of Children`s Hospital

Ivan G. Kharitonenko - patron of the city of Sumy. He bequeathed to their children to build a children`s hospital. Son Paul built a hospital in 1896. For a long time, the hospital was named after its founder. But after the tragic death of Paul Kharitonenko building a children`s hospital daughter baptized in the name of Holy Zinaida.

Children`s Hospital has been designed for 20 seats. It worked best doctors. Over time in the hospital chapel of Holy Zinaida it was built. They conduct prayers for the health of children. After the 1917 revolution, the building is used as a general hospital. After World War II the hospital was reorganized again under the children.

The main building is a gem of an ensemble. The building was built in the style of Ukrainian Art Nouveau with elements of Gothic. A two-storey house is decorated with elegant moldings and housekeeper. For a long time the façade was decorated with a huge mosaic depicting the Holy Zinaida. Now the web is in Sumy Art Museum.
