Putyvl', Putyvl's'kyi district

Putivl town located on the right bank of the Diet in the Sumy region. Previously, he was a powerful fortress of Kievan Rus, which was located between the Chernigov and Novgorod-Seversky principalities. With Putivl a legend that it was here have called Princess Yaroslavna when mourned her husband Igor. This legend was later embodied in the ancient poem "The Lay of Igor's Campaign".

 

Today, from the old days remain only ruins of a once great fortress Molchansky - mounds, fragments of walls, foundation and several towers. Fortress was founded in 1592 by monks, hermits, who lived before in Molchansky desert outside the city. Hence the name of the monastery. Molchansky Monastyrnyi complex consists of several buildings. The oldest artifacts found in Molchansky swamp is a bull skull. His jaws were covered with drawings of ancient peoples who inhabited the area.

 

Church of St. Nicholas Cossack, located on the May Day street is mentioned in the writings of "The Song of Igor's Campaign". However, historians believe that it was built during the reign of the Cossacks in the 18th century. The architectural composition shrines harmoniously two styles - the Ukrainian baroque and ancient architecture. Church of St. Nicholas Cossack has two floors - the first for winter worship, as it heated and has a low arch, and the second - for years of service, because it is more spacious. Have a look in Svyatoduhovsky convent, founded in the 16th century. Its main shrine - is the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, which was built in the old Russian style. Closely spaced small dome gives it a special charm. Inside the cathedral you can enjoy painting and talented Ukrainian artists carved gilded iconostasis. In Svyatoduhovsky female Monastyrnyi complex includes Holy Cross Gate Church with the installed belfry. You can find a temple on Karl Marx Street.

 

Among the oldest attractions Putivel attracts special attention the old Russian fort. It is located in the center of the Sejm. During excavations found many remains of fortifications, as in the times of Kievan Rus' was used to protect against attacks by nomadic tribes. The ruins of the fortress of oak towers, one of which reached the twenty-seven meters. According to the legend of this defensive structure appeared to Prince Igor Polovtsian, and here his wife crying Yaroslavna. Now, on the place of the city is a park and a monument to the princess. You can stroll through the park, representing, as long there were crucial for the entire state of the battle.
