National University. Mechnikov Odessa
National University of Mechnikov - is one of the most prestigious universities of the country, established in Odessa . He is the oldest institution of higher education in southern Ukraine. Since its founding Mechnikov University took one of the leading places in the formation of education and scientific development of the country. University took 4th place in the ranking of schools according to performance Scientometrics database Scopus.
Our history
National Mechnikov University in Odessa was founded May 1, 1865, known as the Imperial Novorossiysk University. From the opening of the door was a part of three departments:
- History and Philology;
- legal;
- Physics and Mathematics.
Later in 1900, added another to the main medical school.
After the February 1917 revolution institution existed until 1920, and then it was disbanded. The reason was the elimination of university education in Ukraine in Soviet times.
Since the beginning of September 1933 at three faculties of the university reopened. By 1939 their number increased to six:
- historical;
- biological;
- philological;
- Physics and Mathematics;
- geographical;
- chemical.
July 1941 turned out to be a difficult period for the university. At this time, due to the then rector M. Savchuk university evacuated. At first he was in Berdyansk, later - in Maikop, and later - in Bairam-Ali.
Resumed its activities on home soil in April 1944. A year later, the university was named after the famous scientist Mechnikov.
By the end of 1980 higher education institution totaled 9 faculties:
- physical;
- Mechanics and Mathematics;
- chemical;
- biological;
- Geology and Geography;
- historical;
- legal;
- philological;
- philology.
For five consecutive years from 2005 to 2009, the university appointed the honorary title of "Leader of modern education." 2010 was remarkable for the university, because he won the competition "Modern Education of Ukraine" Grand Prix. By 2014, inclusive university receives the honorary title of "Leader of scientific activity." Mechnikov National University May 13, 2015, celebrated its 150th anniversary.
Heritage University and principal activities
Odessa National University Mechnikov became part of classical universities. It has authority not only in Ukraine but also abroad. It belongs to the 75 top ranking universities in the world where it takes pride of place 48. The most famous Odessa universities are based on the faculties of the university:
- State Medical University;
- National Law Academy;
- State Economic Institute.
Today Odessa National Mechnikov University has 4th level of accreditation and trains for multistage system: bachelor, specialist, master. Here the 10 departments gain knowledge about 15000 students. Moreover, almost half of whom are studying on a budgetary basis. In addition to the basic faculties of the University includes four institutions:
- mathematics;
- Mechanics and economy;
- social sciences;
- Postgraduate Education.
The University has also preparatory courses for students and foreign students, college, and graduate school master. It should be noted that the Graduate School of the university is the largest in Ukraine. It enrolled 105 majors and 500 graduate students defended every year more than 30 theses. The high level of intellectual potential of the university evidenced by the fact that only in the learning process involved:
- 12 winners of state awards;
- 18 scientists;
- 57 academicians;
- 125 doctors;
- 600 candidates.
Pure research is conducted in four research institutes, as well as numerous research centers and laboratories. Odessa National Mechnikov University has a well developed social and consumer base. It includes:
- modern, comfortable dormitories;
- a few tablespoons;
- two gyms;
- stadium;
- tennis courts;
- Health Camp, and more.
This allows students to not only successfully master the knowledge, but also optimally organize life and leisure.
Getting to the University
The main building of the University of Mechnikov Odessa is on the street Noble. In addition there are several stops: the passing lane Mayakovsky trolley route number 3 and number 12 and routes 68, 117, 130, 170 and 220A. A Noble Street runs much more taxi stop is located near the university.
