The National Art Museum of Ukraine

The National Art Museum is located in the central part of Kiev. It is located in a building constructed in neoclassical style by architect Peter Boytsova. History of the museum began in 1899 with the first exhibition organized on the occasion of the XI All-Russian Congress of archaeologists, which was held in the unfinished building of the Kiev City Museum of Antiquities and Arts.

Since 1939, the museum became known as the State Museum of Ukrainian Art. During the German occupation of Kiev museum was merged with the collection of Russian art and has been called the State Museum of Eastern European art. However, in 1944 the former museum status was renewed.

Visit this interesting place where you can enjoy the masterpieces of foreign and Ukrainian paintings, drawings and sculptures. Today, the museum houses over forty thousand unique exhibits. Especially prized collection assembled by museum staff iconography, which is one of the richest in the country.

Pay attention to the rarity of the 12th century - polychrome wood relief of "St. George with Life", which was brought from Byzantium. Classic examples of iconography 14-16 centuries presented unique creations such as "The Passion of the Christ", "Yuri-Zmeeborets" from Galicia and "Hodegetria Volyn" Lutsk.

Genuine interest among the visitors of the museum enjoys presented within its walls a collection of Baroque art in Ukraine. Examining rare exhibits, you can admire the magnificent creations such as "Christmas", "Entry into Jerusalem", as well as pearl museum - Bereznyanskim iconostasis.

Art department of modern times attracts visitors paintings by famous Ukrainian portraitists - Vladimir Borovykovs'kogo, Dmitry Levitsky and a small collection of paintings of Taras Shevchenko.

Fans will be able to admire the Ukrainian avant-garde works of famous painters Bohomazov Alexander, Alexei Grishchenko Alexandra Ekster and outstanding sculptor Alexander Archipenko.

In addition, the collections of the museum are paintings Nikolai Repin, Mikhail Vrubel, Nikolai Pymonenko, Basil Tropinina Nicholas Murashko George Narbut, Nikolai Ge, work schedule Gnizdovskogo Jacob and founder of Russian abstract art painting by Kazimir Malevich.

Many of the paintings in the collection of the National Art Museum of Ukraine, have been exhibited in various renowned museums in Canada, USA, France.
