The Monument to Nikolai Gogol
In the center of Poltava is a monument to one of the most famous writers in the world - Nikolai Gogol, a native of this amazing region.
Bronze sculpture is mounted on a high reinforced concrete pedestal. Sitting deep in thought Gogol holding an open book and a pencil. Sculpture of the writer gave the city its author - a famous sculptor Leonid Posen in 1915, although the monument was erected only in 1934th. So long setting is linked to the fact that the Soviet government for a long time did not want to build a monument to the "bourgeois" writer.
Today, the monument to Gogol is one of the main attractions of the city. After the restoration in 2009 in a park near the monument was erected Alley Gogol heroes , along which are placed whimsical sculptures of characters from the works of the writer.
