Zhukov island, Kyiv
Zhukov island - it is an area of land adjacent to the right bank of the Dnieper. It got its name from the river Zhukovka, which is popularly often called bugs. This place is a lace of forests and meadows, riddled with numerous water channels. Zhukov island is also considered the largest reserve in the city of Kiev.
Since ancient times, the Kievan princes used the area as a hunting ground. Wilderness preserved here to this day. Today, the bugs island grows more than 120 species of unique plants, its coast was home to three dozen varieties of fish. This place is a real paradise for fishermen. Moreover, the island is part of the route of migratory birds. Here, too, there is a set of animals listed in the Red Book.
Environmentalists call it the Dnieper ecological corridor of European importance. Zhukov island is still possible to meet and ermine, according to scientists, Kiev - one of the few, and perhaps the only place where you can still see this animal.
Unfortunately, this unique island has become a bone of contention between the raiders and land conservationists. Protected area is considered to be quite a tasty morsel for the construction of luxury villas and entertainment complexes. Needless to say that such an approach on the preservation of nature we are not talking.
