Elijah the Prophet Church in Sumy

Strolling through the city of Sumy , it is impossible to pass by Elias church. Some simple classical forms and familiar white and blue eyes on me stop any passerby.

Despite the architectural ease Elias Church, its history it has undergone more tests. Il`inskii first temple was built in the 17th century. But already in the 18th century from him there was nothing left - everything was destroyed by fire.

Church was quickly restored, and in 1793, a year after the tragedy, Ilya Church pleased sumchan its gold domes. But a new wooden church suffered the fate of its predecessor - all burned to the ground.

The third time, Ilya Church built in 1851. This building is still standing.

Elias Church today stands in the center of the oldest district of Sumy called Zasumka. Temple doors open at any time. Among the ancient Church of the greatest reverence images are icons of St. Tikhon of Voronezh and Metrophanes Zadonskiy particles with their relics. According to parishioners, these relics have miraculous properties.
