Monument to Ivan Pidkova
Monument to the great Cossack Hetman Ivan Horseshoe installed in Lviv in the eponymous square. Ivan Horseshoe went down in history as a hero of the liberation struggle of the Ukrainian people against the invaders Cypriots. Legend has it that he is broke and bent horseshoe hands, for which he was given an appropriate nickname. Hetman also received the title of the Moldovan host of local boyars, whom he helped overthrow the Turkish governor.
The author of the monument to Ivan Horseshoe - a famous Lviv sculptor Peter Kulik, he independently financed his creation.
Originally planned to erect a monument on the Market Square , where 16 June 1578 Ivan Horseshoe executed, following an order of the Polish king Stefan Batory.
Lviv eminent architects were against the monument. But, oddly enough, to protect the young sculptor was the Communist Party of Ukraine. After some changes made to the project in 1982, the monument was installed successfully.
On the plate in the spirit of the time it was written that Ivan Horseshoe - the hero of the joint struggle of the Russian, Ukrainian and Moldovan people. But the word "Russian" is constantly trying to jam or cover up paint. Now at this point is fixed horseshoe.
Monuments Hetman Horseshoe also installed in Cherkassy and Kanev .
