Archangel Michael Nunnery
In the heart of the city, near the park Shevchenko , is Archangel Michael Nunnery, the oldest in the Odessa region. His current location does not interfere with the solitary life, and in the construction of the church in the years 1826-1837 it was the edge of town. There is a legend that during the temple festival in honor of St. Michael the Archangel archbishop from one year to hear the voice, pronounces the words of the Gospel: "The zeal of thine house hath eaten in Me." He considered it a sign and made a vow to establish a monastery. The monastery was founded in the years 1841-1844, when it opened a school for orphaned girls from families of priests.
During the Crimean War, the nuns prayed for the victory of Russian troops and the defenders were victorious. In honor of this year from the monastery church religious procession through the Odessa.
Under Soviet rule the monastery and monastery, located in the monastery farm, where subsistence farming was the monastery, were closed.
