Transfiguration Cathedral, White Church

Transfiguration Cathedral, White Church

History of the appearance of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in White Church is directly linked with the name of the Orthodox landowner Aleksandra von Engelhardt. The fact that in his declining years, "the countess-hramozdatelnitsa" as it is called in the archival documents, made a vow to build 12 Orthodox churches. Construction work had to be carried out exclusively by the Countess, and inside the temple was to be three of the throne: the chief - to honor the Savior, and the other two - at St. Nicholas and Alexander Nevsky.

Construction of the temple in the White church began in 1833 and lasted only six years. Such a short time is likely to be explained by the fact that all work conducted in the presence of the Countess-patron, and most of them had been completed even in her lifetime. However, to see the final result was not destined Branitskaya. In 1839, the Countess is gone, but it remains for a long time kept in the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral.

The Soviet regime is not the best way affected the fate of the temple. During this period, most of the shrines, at best, have become museums exhibits, and at worst - melted and gone on sale. In 1933, the cathedral has ceased to function, and during the Great Patriotic War was bombed. But no matter what, a church service in the walls of the cathedral still has resumed, the revival of the temple began in the 2000s.
