Ascension Monastery in Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky - this is an architectural monument of national importance. Construction of the complex began with the creation of the Ascension Cathedral in 1700. Construction of the temple paid Hetman Ivan Mazepa. Further, the area around the cathedral began to actively built up. Appeared first settlements, kitchen, guest houses. In 1738 the monastery was opened Collegium, but 10 years later the wooden school building during a fire destroyed. The new building of the Collegium decided to build a brick, construction was completed only in 1757. Finally monastery ensemble was formed in 1782 and completed the construction of Barbara Church.
Architecture Ascension Monastery was severely damaged during the Revolution and the Second World War, was destroyed by Barbara church suffered and other buildings.
In addition to objects of spiritual culture in the monastery is a museum of the great Ukrainian philosopher Skovoroda. The opening took place in 1970. Also, for the 30th anniversary of victory in World War II in the premises of the Ascension Cathedral was deployed museum diorama "Battle of the Dnieper."
