Building hospitals and maternity shelter Henry Baer is considered one of the most unusual houses in Zaporizhia . This house still is admired by architects for its freshness and beauty.

The history of the hospital and the maternity shelter

Built in 1910 (more than a hundred years ago), in Alexandrovsk (Zaporozhye present) at the corner of Nikolaev and Pokrovsk streets (later - Sverdlov and Artem respectively). This architectural monument was built in the style of northern modern and originally served as a private hospital and a maternity hospital Henry Baer. This is evidenced by the remains of the inscription "Maternity shelter Baer" on the facade from the street Sverdlov.

During its existence, the shelter has provided free assistance to women in labor for everybody, regardless of their origin. In addition, the hospital functioned ophthalmology and surgical departments.

Today the house Baer performs the same function as before, only now called urban maternity hospital №1.
