The history of the cathedral had read in 1799, then it was laid the first stone church of the Nativity of the Virgin. Lined it through donations of local merchants, so people nicknamed her "Starokupecheskoy." The height of the temple is 38 meters, its walls were strong, made of rakushnyaka. After almost 30 years the church was enlarged. Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary has become a real center of spiritual life in the city. When it was opened Sunday school, where he taught not only the laws of the church, but also grammar and arithmetic.

In the early 20th century in the history of the Cathedral begins a black stripe. In 1920 it was removed and sent for processing bell, bell tower and all were destroyed. In 1937, the House began operating the Red Army after the war it was renamed the House of Officers. The interior of the cathedral was also destroyed, murals painted over with paint, values ​​were taken, and the area of ​​the cathedral itself was divided by partitions.

In 1992 the temple was returned to believers again, at the same time and began to pursue an active restoration work. The original dome was restored, which in 1997 established a gilded cross. Later we had a major operation to restore the bell tower. In 2000, the bell tower was placed a cross, a height of 3.5 meters and weight - 340 kg.

Today the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the main cathedral of the Diocese of Mykolayiv, a center of spiritual life of the city and one of the most important monuments.
